I think it may be time we considered starting to restrict the post again. The colossal pain of inspecting it all would, of course, fall primarily to Mr. Filch, who has valuable experience in such matters. I am not overly concerned with the present influx of daily nonsense, but it does make rather clear that owl delivery is a bit too permissive in some ways. Thoughts?

I have business that will keep me away from the castle for most of the evening. If anyone feels moved to say a few words at the feast in my place, I have no objection. So long as you remember that I'll hear them tomorrow.

What a mess. That's all that can come of failing to clean up properly, of course. Crouch had to right idea about how to deal with

If I step on one more blamed firecracker

I will assume that the recent inrush of explosives has been attributable to some combination of Mr. Filch's increasing age and an unfortunate wave of Obliviation accidents involving the rest of our distinguished staff. Allow me to refresh everyone's memory:

There has been a blanket ban on Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes products since September of 1996. This means that all such products are prohibited on school grounds. They are to be confiscated without question and immediately. That means that I don't care whether they're spell-checking quills or fireworks. And it means now.

Is anyone still confused?

I don't know what exactly is to blame, but there's been a rash of rather forward uses of school property, lately, much like the sudden proliferation of brazen solicitation currently overwhelming the journal network.

Most pressingly: Faculty facilities are for faculty; student facilities are for students. Thank you.

Equally problematic: While I understand the realize that there is a certain enthusiasm surrounding the beginning of the season, Mr. Filch would greatly appreciate your combined efforts to curtail the more spirited pieces of Quidditch nonsense that have begun cropping up throughout the castle. They haven't even really got teams yet - they don't need banners blocking the halls. Incidentally, Bend Over, Ravenclaw is not an acceptable invitation to sportsmanlike competition - nor is it appropriate to the respect due to the Founders - and it would seem to be decidedly premature. We've just come off an interminable summer of this rubbish, for the

Two days.

[Hogwarts Faculty / Staff]

We have a substantial number of new additions this year. The only one that merits any cautionary notice, I think, is the new Keeper of the Keys and Grounds, who will be housing a dependent in his hut. Precautions have been taken, but you will need to make certain that your students refrain from causing trouble in that vicinity.

There have been some minor policy changes regarding the opening feast that may result in certain disruptions. I trust everyone will conduct themselves professionally.

Further updates as the inevitable crises arise.

What a lot of fuss for a set of imbecilic thugs who've never amounted to much more than schoolyard bullies. They must be terribly pleased with themselves - they always are, when they manage to get a rise - it's more attention than they warrant, now that the Dark L there's nothing to distinguish them from any other band of small-minded criminals.

There won't be much to wring one's hands over for very long, anyhow. In my experience, schoolyard bullies always get exactly what they deserve, in the end - one way or another. Sometimes it takes a few years - but patience does pay off.

Every four years (with the occasional happy interruption) I find myself actually looking forward to the first of September. I have yet to decide whether that lack of dread is worth the increasing drunken boorishness culminating in - very nearly like clockwork - two truly insufferable weeks. Perhaps this year will help to clarify.

A number of new hires this year; the latest is Gregory Goyle, replacing the previous groundskeeper. More as they come along.

They ought to be evacuated tonight. Could probably get the word out in time - if the tunnels are clear - if the houses are ready. No one likes to be made a fool of - least of all that lot - the only thing worse than bad blood would be bad blood that can pass. Won't go over well at all. Someone should be notifi

But everyone would know exactly who'd opened his mouth, and there go seventeen years of misery, wasted - hardly worth it for a couple of however many rabbity little impostors, I don't care what

No doubt our new arrangement will eliminate some of the frustrations inherent in addressing classes with such disparate levels of aptitude, and all students will find their needs better served. Our new faculty come with the highest recommendations, and we all look forward to benefiting from their experience. Any concerns about the improved system should be addressed to the High Inquisitor, who will take very careful note - if you must, you may visit me, preferably with twenty-four hours advance notice.

If I had a galleon for every time I've thought it was over, almost over - the night she died, the year we spent babysitting that that troublesome stone, the day He came into a proper body, this mess - I could afford a decent supplement to the shameful cupboard that's kept here. Supplies on the level of what the school can offer aren't to be expected, but something past a first-year's kit. Not home-brewers, the Blacks. No surprise there. Never observed any real skill out of more than one of them.
For Dreamless Sleep: three living roots of aloe, wrung; 14? 28 anise seeds, whole, dissolve + 2 weeks in tincture of cinqfoil stirred 3/clockswise, 4/clockwise? stirred __/clockwise; 8 rushes lavender bound in blackberry vine (it was sextuple or, no- triple knots) and burned to ash; 2 oz. flower beetle elytra powdered frozen/shattered coarse-ground [it was always written 'powdered,' but that never seemed to

I wish I knew where that blasted book had gotten to. Only so much one can commit to memory. Must give Horace's office a good turning over, first thing.

Off to a rollicking good start, as usual. Most of you write as though you were on furlough from the long-term care ward at St. Mungo's. Stop.
